About Maria

The Maria Grade 2 class builds on the academic foundation established in earlier years, introducing more complex subjects like history, geography, and science. Through Montessori and Cambridge methods, students engage in hands-on projects, collaborative learning, and critical thinking exercises. This class emphasizes independence and personal responsibility, helping students take ownership of their learning.

Named after Maria Montessori, this class represents our commitment to individualized education, where each child is seen as capable of achieving their full potential through guided discovery and exploration

A day in the life at Maria Class

08:30–09:00

Arrival

Children arrive, unpack, and prepare for the day. Quiet, focused starter activities like journaling, reading, or maths warm-ups help them transition smoothly into learning.

09:00–09:30

Breakfast

Together, the class enjoys a healthy breakfast. Children take responsibility for serving themselves, practise table manners, and enjoy conversations with friends — small steps towards independence.

09:30-10:20

English

The first academic block is dedicated to English. Children refine reading comprehension, grammar, and writing skills. They may read short texts, draft creative stories, or explore new vocabulary — building fluency and confidence as communicators.

10:20-10:30

Transition Time

A brief reset to prepare for the next subject.

10:30–11:20

Mathematics

Maths becomes more challenging, moving from basic operations to problem-solving, patterns, and early multiplication. Lessons mix hands-on resources with more abstract thinking, helping children master key skills step by step.

11:20-11:30

Transition Time

Children stretch, refresh, and get ready for physical activity.

11:30–12:20

Physical Education

PE lessons combine fun with focus. Whether running, balancing, or playing team games, children build coordination, strength, and resilience — while also learning teamwork and sportsmanship.

12:20-13:05

Lunch

A balanced meal of protein, vegetables, and grains fuels both body and mind. Around the table, children practise independence, conversation, and community.

13:05-13:55

Science

Science sparks curiosity through experiments, observation, and questioning. Children might explore forces, test materials, or observe nature — building early scientific thinking and practical skills.

13:55-14:05

Transition Time

A short break to reset before diving into the arts.

14:05-14:55

Art

Creativity takes centre stage. Using paint, clay, or drawing materials, children explore self-expression and develop fine motor skills. Projects often link to class themes, weaving imagination into the curriculum.

14:55-15:05

Transition Time

Time to stretch and settle before the final session.

15:05-15:55

DEAR

The classroom falls quiet as every child picks a book of their choice. This daily ritual builds stamina, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading.

15:55-16:00

Closing

The day ends with reflection and calm preparation for home. Children share highlights, celebrate effort, and leave feeling proud of their progress.
